Lake Del Valle Fishing Report

Del Valle Lake - Livermore, CA (Alameda County)

I trolled Lake Del Valle on 9/19/24 targeting my favorite fresh water game fish, the Smallmouth Bass.

The morning started out slow then the bite turned around around 0930 and  then turned off by 1100. I managed to land and safely release five nice Smallies ranging in weight from 1 to 2.2 pounds with the largest in the photo below.  The fish were caught along the north wall in Heron Bay and the east wall entering Heron Bay in 30’ to 40’ water column,  20’ - 25’ below the water surface.  The successful lures were Joes Flies and Roxstar spinner flies trolled with lead core line and fluorocarbon leader to achieve the desired depth.

What I found interesting is the fish were not hitting the lures as aggressively and the fight was not as hard as in the previous outings this year.  Perhaps this can be attributed to the drop in the water temperatures this week over  last week.  This week the surface departures ran 70’ - 71’  as compared to 74’ to 75’ last week.

All in all a good day and looking forward to next week’s outing.  A big thank you to the marina staff for all their help!
