Fishing for cutthroat trout should be fair to good throughout the river.

The Kilchis River (up to Tilden Bluff Road Bridge) opened to fall Chinook fishing on Aug. 1. There are some fish in tidewater and probably a few pushing into the lower river although numbers will be low until we get more rain.

The adult wild Chinook daily bag limit for all Tillamook Rivers (Tillamook River and Bay, Kilchis River, Miami River, Wison River, and Trask River) is one fish in aggregate. No more than two adult wild Chinook salmon may be retained for the period in aggregate. See the regulation updates for more details.

A catch-and-release fishery for chum salmon is allowed on the Kilchis River through Nov. 15. There should be a few chum showing up soon, although this run usually peaks the first couple weeks of November. Anglers are reminded to use good ethics while enjoying this opportunity; avoid snagging in pools with lots of fish by fishing suspended presentations, and avoid disturbing redds (spawning nest) and fish that are actively spawning.

Cutthroat trout fishing is still open through Oct. 31 and there are resident and sea-run cutthroat throughout the fishery.
