The Necanicum River has fall Chinook throughout the fishery and fishing has been fair. The Necanicum is a small basin that drops and clears quickly so it could be a good bet for this weekend. The daily adult wild Chinook salmon bag limit is one fish. No more than two adult wild Chinook salmon may be retained for the period. See the regulation updates for more details. Fall Chinook season ends on Nov. 30 and there is no retention of Chinook salmon after that date.

The Hwy 101 boat ramp on the Necanicum has been re-opened for angler access. The gate remains up but has a combination lock on it. Anglers can get the combination by calling the Tillamook District office at (503) 842–2741 and providing their name and ODFW Hunter/Angler ID number.

The first hatchery winter steelhead showed up at the North Fork Nehalem hatchery this week; this is the same stock of steelhead that is released in the Necanicum. It's early and numbers will be very low, but there's a chance.

Cutthroat trout fishing closed in the North Coast rivers and streams on Nov. 1.
