The Metolius is seeing solid action, with nymphing and dry fly setups both coming into play. For nymphing, consider a lighter rod, like a 3-weight, for better sensitivity and control. Keep an eye on your indicators and adjust for various conditions as they change. For dries, make sure to have your dry rod ready—bugs are starting to show more regularly, though not in large numbers yet.
On the nymphing side, you'll want to focus on tan and orange caddis pupa as well as midges and mayfly nymphs, particularly in smaller sizes. If you’re seeing some activity on the surface, consider throwing dry flies that match the hatches like BWO or caddis. As always, big articulated streamers will entice bull trout, who are actively feeding. If you're targeting them, don't shy away from larger streamers or eggs.
