I had to use an old picture of myself cruising the Colorado River, but this way you’ll know what I look like. So when you catch some of the trout that are being planted at Community Park, bring them in and I can get a picture of you and include it in the fish report.

The Willow Beach Hatchery is providing us with some great rainbow trout. These fish are raised specifically for anglers and are being stocked weekly. This not only gives anglers a great opportunity to catch fish but also helps with the caddis fly issue. We may want to consider joining Clark County in addressing the caddis fly problem, as they have more resources available than we do.

We’re also seeing some great striper fishing right now. Shore fishing has been working well, and smaller watercraft are able to handle the low water releases from Davis Dam.

Just a quick note about Davis Dam: there are five gates, or generator stations. When only one unit (gate) is online, the water is very low—about half a gate. In fact, one gentleman recently walked across the river. It was deep toward the middle, but he did make it across. Each gate that comes online raises the water level by about 12–14 inches.

Up on Lake Mohave, striper fishing is also doing well, with trolling producing the best results. There’s also some good smallmouth bass action along the shelves. Anglers are using various plastics, and some of these fish are reaching the 6-pound range.
