The Madison in YNP has had some caddis activity recently. You can cast to risers in the evening if it's sunny. If you're lucky you might even find a spawner rising. Big rising spawners are not something you can find in every river. The resident fish aren't too shabby either. If you're going to swing soft hackles or nymph for spawners get in early. Your best shot will always be in the morning or evening during low light levels. It's not too early to catch a few fish in one day. Remember that any hole can hold spawners so move around, find new water and get away from the major holes that everyone knows about. Make sure you know what kind of water you're wading before you charge into it. It can be hard to tell how deep some of the riffles are in the Madison. You want to have the proper wading boots or wading staff as well. Talk to us about deals on boots and waders.

When flying ants hit the water fish are always happy to rise. It has been a great cinnamon ant year in Yellowstone country...... Read More
