Fall days have arrived.?? Hoppers and smaller caddis are phasing out, with Fall Mayflies taking center stage from late morning through the afternoon.?? Offering mayfly nymphs from the get-go is an excellent strategy to sample fish until and even through the hatches.?? Blue-Winged Olives are the stand-out emergence, however the "other mayflies" will appear, and at times tempt fish to switch.?? Graced with cloudy, cool, moist weather, this river can definitely be as good as it gets.

For those staying late, the last hour of light-to-dark is THE time to fish October Caddis Pupa and Adults for the next several weeks.

Winter's coming fast ??? until then, expect the "Yak" to fish decent-to-extremely well, day-in, day-out.?? Happy Fall!

With most anglers now swinging for Steelhead, you will be pleasantly surprised finding solitude, and trout in the upper river between Warm Springs and South Junction. Although the Caddis bonanza is tapering off, it's still wise to keep a few stacked in your box. The saddle Caddis is small in size and best imitated with an Elk Hair Caddis in black or olive and the E/C Caddis olive # 16-18. The Pupa will hatch throughout the day with the majority hatching...... Read More
