A plant of 400 pounds of 1 to 3 pound trout went in this week and sparked better action. Trout are down 40 feet and fishing has been good. A few cutts come in each week – all by trolling. June Lake Marina (760) 648-7726; Perch bite has picked up. Most are caught along the reeds. Trout bite is slow. Gull Lake Marina (760) 648-7539; Well it was a week of unsteady and inconsistent fishing here at Silver Lake. With another week of very hot weather for us – 85 degrees each day – made fishing tough at times but we did see some glimmer of good catches later in the week. The key to fishing this week was to go out early in the morning and late in the afternoon and try to catch those fish up near the surface feeding in the shadows in the waters. Our turning point of the week came Thursday afternoon when we received a load of Desert Spring Fish from Oregon weighing on average 2.5 pounds with a total of 400 pounds. Look for another load of Desert Springs Rainbows before the fourth of July weekend, according to my math that would be in the next few days!! Hopefully we also get a load of DFW catchables this next week too which would set us up very nicely for the coming holiday weekend. With the warm weather it has pushed the fish deep into the depths of the lake where things are a little cooler in temperature. With that said take your bait deep in the water with about a 30″ to 36″ leader line to bring that floating bait at about the top of the weed line. Look for those fish to be doing some surface feeding early and late so look at trying some trolling with a Red Gill Olive Matuka or a Rainbow Hornberg near the surface or even small Rapala in a brown trout pattern. Look at also trying some dry flies like a Mosquito, a Yellow or Red Humpy or even a Elks Hare besides your Power Baits with Garlic in them. Fishing is still good but you have to be patient and diligent to see good results. I think I have said it before but the fish are not going to just jump into your boat, you have to work a little harder these days to catch your limit. Silver Lake (760) 648-7525
