Fish Spot Details

Fish Species: Rainbow Trout
Lake Lagunitas, located near Fairfax in Marin County, is a peaceful, 22-acre reservoir best known for its excellent trout fishing and full-lake shoreline access. Regularly stocked with rainbow trout during the cooler months, it offers great action for anglers using PowerBait, nightcrawlers, or spinners like Kastmasters and Panther Martins.

Fly fishing is also popular, with calm, shallow waters that are ideal for dry flies and nymphs. The lake features a 1.5-mile trail circling the entire perimeter, providing easy access to all prime fishing spots, especially near the dam and the inlet. No motorized boats are allowed, keeping the area quiet and family-friendly. Non-motorized float tubes may be permitted depending on conditions.

In warmer months, anglers may also encounter sunfish and the occasional largemouth bass. These species add variety, though trout remain the main draw.

With picnic tables, restrooms, and a beautiful forest setting, Lake Lagunitas is perfect for a full day of casual fishing or teaching kids to fish. Its manageable size, clear waters, and natural beauty make it one of the most beloved freshwater fisheries in Marin County
