Mother Nature has finally decided to allow fishing on the Klamath river again. This past week the river finally dropped back down to a fish able level after weeks of crazy cold rain and snow. My clients Brad and Steve Appleby came up from Southern Cal for a birthday Steelhead adventure. Friday we got on the river with air temperatures in the low 20's and river temps in low 40's pretty cold stuff, but the sun shined on us most of day, plus we were the only boat on the river. Steve took first fish honors being the Dad and birthday boy it only seemed appropriate This fish took a back trolled night crawler dipped in ProCure Carpspit. Brad got on the board after Dad landed another fish, but this one would end up winning big fish honors. A back bounced night crawler was the method this time and it produced a nice 4.5 pound Buck it put up a nice battle staying down on the bottom and using the current to rip some drag. Brad won the battle and was rewarded with a great picture and of course bragging rites. we picked up a couple more fish casting Rapalas but that would be it for day. The cold took over and the bite shut down. Not a red hot bite but for first time out after high water and crazy weather it was good day. We will be back on the river again Saturday chasing the Steelhead so stay tuned.
