The Truckee River has seen another bump in flows from our last Report. Flows through the downtown gauge are 520 CFS, and the river temperature fluctuates from 40-45 degrees from morning to evening. Fish have been actively eating from 10-dusk with some dry fly action late afternoon to dusk. Sunnier days have been really good for nymphing as the water more warms quickly making the fish eager to feed.

The fish are in a lot of different water types as the water warms. We’ve been catching them in slow frog water and all the way up into some faster runs. Baetis and midge in a size #16-#20 have been working well, as have size #6-#10 stonefly patterns as the Skwala hatch is in full swing. We have also gotten a few fish on streamers, but it may still be early for that with water temps where they are.

Truckee River Flies We Suggest: Spanish Bullet, Quill Jig, Hot Spot, CDC Red Tag, Zebra Midge, Ready Baetis, Carot, Hot Butt, Pullover BWO, Micro Mayfly, Truckee River Dozen
