Castaic rose to 34 percent of capacity, and water temperatures have been dropping into the mid-seventies. Fishing was great at Castaic last week, and anglers are still using the same tactics to get bite. Topwater walking baits, and poppers in the morning followed by finesse plastics has been a steady pattern for a few months. Senkos, drop shot, and Carolina rigs have been the most popular techniques, but the bass will eat just about any small plastic presented on main lake points and near bluffs. Fat Ikas have been fooling some of the larger bass. Shad are starting to move closer to the banks, and of course the striper follow. Striper anglers reported intermittent boils throughout the lake, and Kastmasters, topwater and jerkbaits all worked when thrown near the boils. Bait anglers fooled striper in 25 to 60 feet of water, and trolled flies and umbrella rigs produced a lot of small grade striper. Catfish have been eating cut anchovies, dip bait, and chicken liver, and crappie anglers targeted the lagoon with minijigs.
