The trout remain active particularly in Oakvale Cove and in Willow Cove. John Larsen of Murrieta had the biggest trout for January so far at 8.40#s. Mr. Larsen’s fish was caught using a pink hook-up bait in Boat Dock Cove. Inflated nightcrawlers and rainbow powerbait have been two of the top baits.

Limits of catfish are still being reported. Kyle Walker of Terrence, Ca. caught 35.10# catfish on Friday using cut mackerel at the West Buoy Line. . Lake Wohlford cats like chicken liver, shrimp, or cut mackerel.

Largemouth bass absent from the report for over a month are beginning to become active again and are being caught by unsuspecting trout anglers. Bass can be found lurking around structure and respond well to crawdads or dark colored plastics.

Crappie are being reported sporadically in small numbers. Most are suspended deep right now. Crappie prefer the cover of shade and are most often present close to shore pre-dawn. They are typically caught using mini-jigs or live golden shiners.
