Crane Prairie opens up this morning and we are thrilled. The Cascade Lakes Highway above Bachelor will likely be closed for at least another few weeks as they work on snow removal. With that being said, S Century Dr past the Fall river will be your best route for accessing the lake. I spoke with someone from the Forrest Service this morning and they informed us that the Crane Prairie resort ramp will be open. They are continuing to work on removing snow and clearing downed trees from the west side of the lake so those ramps remain closed for now. Early season fish will be spread out and fishing balanced leeches and or chironomid/midge patterns under an indicator will be your best bet. Stripping leeches is another excellent way to cover some water and find some willing fish. It should be another great season on Crane and we can’t wait to see what this year has in store.
Recommended Dries: Chubby Chernobyl Patriot and Purple #12-14, Para- Cricket #16-12
Recommended Nymphs: Bruised Balanced Leech #14, Two Bit Hooker #20, Zebra Midge #18-20, Super Sinker #16-18, bead wing midge #18-20, Red Pheasant Tail #14-18, Rainbow Warrior #18-20, Red Ice Cream Cone #12-16
