Hyatt has already seen its likely peak water level for the year and is now dropping daily due to irrigation withdrawals. The reservoir is currently at 2,167 acre-feet and 14 percent full. Don’t expect much of anything for trout as last year’s low, warm water put a significant hurt on the trout. With the extremely low water, it was not stocked in the fall either and no legal trout are planned for stocking this year.

There should be a few bass still around, but they too were impacted by the extremely low and warm reservoir levels the last 2 years. There is very little pressure but there are, as always, scenic views on clear days. Personal watercraft is launchable, but larger vessels are not recommended as there are no improved ramps accessible. There is a hardpacked area near the dam, which can launch smaller vessels but you must take a left before going out to the dam parking lot, and hug the shore and avoid some rocks in the lake bed to access it.

Hyatt lake resort, store and restaurant are open. This is a great place to swing by and grab a bite to eat for mountain visitors.

The BLM campgrounds opened last weekend and campgrounds can be reserved at Recreation.gov.
