The next trout stocking is this week! Another 1,500 pounds of rainbows from Idaho will go into the lake. The last trout stocking of the season will be the week of April 17th which will bring our total stocking for the season to 20,000 pounds (plus the 2,200 pounds from DFW!).
What’s the Catch? Despite it not being a stocking week, this weekend yielded limits for a number of anglers. The south eastern shoreline between the t-dock and big rock is always a good spot for trout as they make their way around the lake. We also saw limits coming off of the boats and heard Hermit Cove was busy. Powerbait and nightcrawlers were reeling them in. You can count on the bass bite these days especially with the spawn. Shorelines around the lake are attracting bass. We heard swimbaits and green pumpkin brush hogs were the way to go. Cloister and Half Moon Cove were good places to catch panfish this weekend. Meal worms usually encourage a bite, but they’ve been known to bite on a piece of nightcrawler too. No reports of catfish this weekend, but the rangers expect that bite to pick up with the warming temps.
Conditions: It’s been a slow, damp start to the spring, but the water temperature has started to warm up. It’s currently 62 degrees. The sun is rising at 6:34 a.m. and setting at 7:10 p.m. New Moon this month is April 19th. This weekend should be a stunner! Check out the local forecast below.
