Stocking: Catfish Opener is Memorial Day weekend where 1,500 pounds from Alpine Fishery will be stocked. A total of 8,500 pounds of catfish will be stocked this season. With catfish season comes night fishing! The lake will be open on Friday and Saturday until midnight beginning May 26th.
What’s the Catch? Anglers were still pulling limits of trout this weekend. Most were coming off of boats as the trout were deep. Powerbait was producing nibbles. The bass bite has been prolific.
Bites were reported on shiners in Shadow and Hermit Cove as well as off of the t-dock. Plastics in watermelon varieties also work well in our lake as they mimic the natural environment. The panfish bite is also picking up as the days get warmer and brighter. The Redear and Bluegill like meal and wax worms, but a piece of nightcrawler works too.
Conditions: The temperature around the boat dock is currently 64 degrees, but around 35 feet deep the temp drops to 59. The sun is rising at 6:06 a.m. and setting at 7:26 p.m. Bring sunscreen and drink lots of water this weekend. It’s gonna be a warm one! Check out the local forecast below.
