Striped bass are spread throughout tidewater in the Coquille River. Fish getting ready to spawn can be found in upper tidewater above the town of Coquille. Anglers are reporting striped bass around Riverton and Rocky Point in the lower river. Striped bass fishing is typically better after dark, but some fish can be caught during daylight hours.
Anglers are still catching shad in the mainstem Coquille River between Coquille and Arago Boat Ramp. Shad darts or small jigs with a twister tail have been working to catch shad.
Anglers are reporting decent smallmouth bass fishing in the lower South Fork Coquille and mainstem Coquille River.
A temporary regulation started on June 1 allowing anglers in Coquille River system to use spears and spear guns to harvest smallmouth bass. Traditional rod and reel anglers can also use bait throughout the river system. This unique fishing opportunity is one of many efforts to reduce the impact of illegally introduced bass on Chinook populations.
Trout fishing in streams and rivers are open. Anglers are having success catching trout on small spinners or fly fishing.
