Fall Chinook has started to pick up the last few weeks on the Siuslaw river! We have gotten a good report that Siuslaw is showing some earlier success compared to its basin neighbors. Fish have been moving into the basin quickly. Folks have been catching some decent size bright fish in tide water and in the bays.‌

Although we saw a decent number of fish being caught early on, the Siuslaw has since slowed down quite a bit. Fish as still coming in and we will likely see another big push of fish coming into the system.‌

The Siuslaw has different regulations for fall Chinook bag limits than the other Mid Coast basins due to a below average forecast. So be sure to check the regulation updates before heading out. We have had a decent number of reported fish being caught tidewater and below.‌

With the recent rains, fish are stretching out a bit throughout the system. Fish are being caught up near Tiernan and higher up river as the rains allow fish to move more freely throughout the basin. ‌

As a reminder, as fish are moving higher upstream: Lake Creek on the Siuslaw is closed to all salmon fishing.

Wild coho retention is now closed on the Siuslaw river. ‌

We have seen some decent bank casting success through the boulder riprap on Rhodedendron for Chinook. A lot of folks casting bobber and eggs or spinners for the incoming fish around slack tide leads to a decent amount of success. However, most fish have moved higher up into the system and there likely aren't many fish hanging out so low in the system. ‌

Trout fishing closed Oct. 31.
