Water Conditions
No complaints about the overall conditions on the Truckee River right now. Current flows vary throughout the different sections right now. Near Tahoe City, the flows on the river are much slower than through the town of Truckee. From 89 south to Truckee, the flows almost double in size. With the longer, warmer days ahead, the trout are becoming very active, partly due to the increase in bug activity. The current flows are 72 CFS out of Tahoe City, 325 CFS through Truckee, 600 CFS near Martis Creek, and 1200 CFS near Farad.
Tips for the Week
Indicator nymphing is still the name of the game on the Truckee River. There are a few spots anglers can try to tightline, but it is limited because of the current difficulty of wading. Anglers are recommended to use large indicators and lots of weight. This should keep your bait in the bite zone. This time of the year has been known to bring in some big fish on the Truckee River, so get out there!
