Water Conditions
The Little Truckee River is still flowing higher than usual for this time of year, but it is yielding excellent fishing opportunities. With a slight decrease in water levels over the past week, more distinct pools and accessible wading spots have emerged along the river. Due to being a tailwater fishery, the water here remains significantly cooler compared to the main Truckee River. The current flow on the Little Truckee River between Boca and Stampede is around 290 CFS.
Tips for the Week
Dry fly fishing is still the preferred tactic on the Little Truckee River. This fishery is known for its abundant pale morning dun hatch during the warmer months, providing excellent dry fly fishing opportunities in the middle of the day. Additionally, the river is currently experiencing an impressive caddis hatch in the evening, making it essential for anglers to carry a diverse selection of flies to ensure a successful fishing experience here.
Suggested Flies
Some fly favorites to try on the Little Truckee River this week are Melon Quill size 16, Pale Morning Dun Mole Fly size 18, Pink Cahill size 18, E/C Caddis size 16, and Z-wing Caddis Green size 16.
