Fishing in this stretch remains enjoyable, primarily with smaller trout, but there are occasional larger specimens that can provide a thrilling catch. For effective fishing, indicator rigs with nymphs recommended for the Box Canyon will work well here. However, anglers looking to experiment can try using grasshopper patterns and streamer rigs. Brown trout are starting to show their spawning colors and become more territorial, increasing the chances of encountering larger fish.
In the area below Ashton Reservoir, fishing activity is limited and tends to slow down in the afternoons, particularly with terrestrial flies. It’s important to monitor water temperatures closely; if the temperature reaches 70 degrees Fahrenheit, it’s advisable to wrap up your fishing and move to a cooler spot. Streamers can be effective in the mornings. We’re approaching a significant seasonal change in the coming weeks, which could alter fishing conditions.
