The Lower Deschutes has been fishing great but keep in mind that the fire down there has the river closed in Sections 3 and 4; that being said, the day stretch is still open and fishing great. Dry fly activity in the evenings is holding steady and nymphing has continued to be effective particularly with tungsten flies. Flashback PT’s, Copper John’s, Prince Nymphs and Perdigons are some of our favorites. Swinging leeches, sculpin and crayfish streamers can be a fun and effective way to target some more aggressive fish. Steelhead are in the river, mostly down low still but on their way up. Now is the time to be thinking about planning a trip down there in the next couple of months.
