We’re in the heart of trout season, and what a great group of fish we have! Our Willow Beach Hatchery is supplying both local and visiting anglers with some fantastic rainbow trout.
When the trout are first planted, anglers often need to experiment with their bait choices. Local angler Gerry Ward initially tried PowerBait without success. He then switched to his favorite trout jig, but still no luck. Finally, he landed his limit in no time using a Panther Martin spinner while fishing from shore in the Rotary Park area.
In other news, the striper bite is still active! Anchovies remain the go-to bait, especially when paired with bait wrap thread to keep them securely on the hook. While the larger stripers haven’t shown up yet, if you have success targeting them, please let us know.
Up on Lake Mohave, striper action has been hit or miss. Even during boils, anglers have reported challenges hooking up. However, the stripers up there tend to run larger than those caught below Davis Dam.
Reminder: We’re your weigh station for any fish you’d like to check. This scale is provided by the Arizona Game and Fish Department, and we’re happy to weigh your catch. Stop by and see us!
Thanks for your support, and we look forward to seeing your next big catch. Now, go catch a fish!
