Castaic rose to 81 percent of its storage capacity and water temperatures fell into the mid-sixties. High winds made for tougher conditions early in the week, but fishing was pretty good overall. Bass and striper were taken on the surface with riser baits, Espetits, and poppers. Spoons and small jerkbaits worked for the surface feeding fish as well. The topwater bite has definitely slowed, but anglers who were in the right place at the right time took some massive striped bass. Large and smallmouth were reliable on drop shot, weightless wacky rigged Senkos, and Carolina rigs near the 15 foot zone with hologram shad, morning dawn, and green pumpkin colors still fooling fish. Some crankbait bass were reported by anglers working submerged rock in 10 to 15 feet of water. Catfish slurped up chicken liver and dip bait along the dam.
