Trout fishing should be good, and anglers have been catching smallmouth bass on 5-inch Senkos. Applegate's surface elevation is 1,923 feet. Boat access is limited to the low water boat ramp at French Gulch. The water temperature at the surface is 42F.

There is a longstanding health advisory for consumption of resident species due to elevated levels of mercury. See Oregon Health Authority consumption guidelines or the sportfishing regulations for more information.
