This may go back a bit, but this size of fish is what’s running now. These stripers can be caught from shore using anchovies or lures. Our water levels this year are a bit out of whack, but for those fishing with bait, we have some bait wrap thread available to help secure your bait to the hook. I recommend using a hook size between #2 and 2/0, and a 1 oz weight to make it easier for the fish to pick it up.
For lure anglers, I recommend a swim bait in a trout pattern, white, or bone color—these are great go-to options. When fishing from shore with lures, it’s best to cast upriver to control your retrieve. If you're in a boat and drifting, cast toward shore and retrieve—your retrieve is what attracts the fish.
For shore anglers using bait, remember that the fish are cruising the shallows looking for food, not out in the deep areas where there’s less to find.
Hope this helps, and we look forward to seeing you and hearing about your catch and story. Thanks again for all your support!
Now, go catch a fish!
