Shasta Lake has been blessed with some amazing February weather.  We hoped for some more rain this month, but its just not going to happen.  We still have a few months left in a typical rainy season, but theres no end of the dry weather in sight.  The good news is Shasta Lake is only about 36' from full pool so we do have plenty of water for great fishing.  The lake is coming to life and the surface temps are on the rise.  This morning we saw diving birds feasting on a bait ball near the surface and the water is visibly stained with new plankton blooms.  This always signals the beginning of spring and the good trout fishing follows.  We caught 7 rainbows before 11:00 am today but got off the water before we had any bites from the browns.  Thats been a pattern lately, but the bite changes almost daily in the beginning of the season.  Stay tuned for more reports next week!
