ODFW stocked the lake with trophy and legal rainbow trout. Fishing for these species has slowed due to extensive angler effort. A few lake trout are also showing up in the catch.
Fly-anglers should look for the traveling sedge hatch. These caddisflies run across the surface in early morning and late evening. Also, look for pandora moths and carpenter ant hatches. The flooded timber in the northwest section of the lake is a good place to target rising fish.
Kokanee might be extirpated from the lake. Please report any kokanee caught from the lake. The lake is currently 19 percent full and declining fast.
Launching boats becomes particularly challenging as the lake recedes. There is no official concrete boat ramp with dock. Launching takes place from a sandy shoreline. Only small boats are recommended. You can also call Lake of the Woods Resort for updates.
