Water Conditions

Just like May, June is setting up to be a good month of fishing on the Little Truckee River. Conditions are consistent with last week with flows around 580 CFS between Boca and Stampede Reservoirs. Anglers should expect these flows to stay around this number for most of the month. The water clarity is great and the temperature is in the mid-fifties.

Tips for the Week

Anglers fishing the Little Truckee River right now should try fishing with more subtle flies under an indicator, or, tightline nymphing. For indicator nymphing, use a small bobber with maybe one or two split shot BB’s and seperate the split shot about two feet from the bugs. 5x tippet is also recommended. Hatches of pale morning duns, blue-winged olives, and green drakes are beginning to appear on the Little Truckee around 9 am and 1 pm. Remember to be stealthy on the Little Truckee River for the best results.

Suggested Flies

Some fly favorites to try on the Little Truckee River this week are zebra midges, juju baetis, split-case pale morning duns, split-case blue-winged olives and red-headed step childs. Use size 18 to 16 on the pale morning duns. Dry flies used should be around size 16 to 18.
