Here in the Upper Kern, anglers continue to score holdovers and natives along the 20-mile stretch. With no trout plants in a couple months, deeper pools and river bends with eddies are a good place to start looking. Trout have been coming on yellow or gold colored bead nymphs, salmon eggs, and trout jigs. The Lower Kern Bass bite remains very good. Smallmouth and Largemouth Bass have been going for Get Bent Baits, Roostertails and small crankbaits. Fly anglers reported an excellent bass bite in some of the deeper pools with a variety of fly offerings. Catfish are being caught with nightcrawlers, chicken liver and cutbait. At the time of reporting, the Upper Kern River at Kernville was flowing at 244 CFS and the Lower Kern River was flowing at 1252 CFS.
