The Madison in the Park may just be our sleeper bet of the week. If you enjoy the challenge of stalking brown trout and sight nymphing to cruising fish you spot, before they see you, then this might be the game you enjoy most! Stealth and patience will pay off. Slowly walk and stalk and present a BWO Split Back or similar Baetis pattern on 5.5x tippet. When you see the wink of white as the fish opens its mouth to inhale your nymph this is the sign to raise your rod and set the hook. Do not hang on to your line as you will break off. Your audience will by only you and your trophy! Brown trout are just now coming into the river in number, upstream from Hebgen Lake, in preparation to spawn. Too, good hopper fishing can be had near Madison Jct. if we see warm, clear, windy weather conditions so be ready then with a big hopper like we tie here at the shop! Cold wet weather is the majority of the forecast for the coming week. If this occurs you can bet more and more fish will be moving up from the lake. We're expecting a great spawner fishing year.
