Water Conditions

The Truckee River is currently offering excellent, fall fishing conditions. With water temperatures between 56 and 60 degrees Fahrenheit, the fish are active during any part of the day. While the flows in the upper river might be low, they gain momentum significantly at the Boca Confluence. With cloudy skies and cooler weather, now is the ideal time to get out and enjoy the fall fishing throughout the Truckee River. The current flows on the Truckee River are 78 CFS near Tahoe City, 157 CFS near the Glenshire Bridge, 444 CFS near the Boca Confluence, and 449 CFS near Farad.

Tips for the Week

With the excellent fall weather Truckee has been experiencing, there is currently a daily hatch of Pale Morning Duns, Blue-Winged Olives, and Caddis flies occurring around midday on the Truckee River. In the evenings, October Caddis are primarily hatching at dusk. Anglers fishing the Truckee River right now should focus on using dry flies or a dry-dropper combination. For those fishing during midday, nymphing under a small indicator is also proving to be productive.

Suggested Flies or Lures

Some fly favorites to try on the Truckee River this week are Juju Baetis, Dark Lord, E/C Caddis, Hares Ear size 18 , Orange Stimulator size 10 and Midge Pupas in size 18 and 20.
