Steady trout plants in the Upper Kern from DFWL over the last 4 weeks has helped the action here. The water is cold, and the fish are sluggish, but as the water warms during the early afternoon the bite improves. Anglers are scoring fish with salmon eggs, crickets, spinners, and pinched crawlers. Fly anglers have had solid action with nymphs and dry/dropper above Fairview. The Upper Kern River was stocked this week in the following sections: Section 4, Powerhouse #3 to Riverside Park in Kernville, and Section 6, Fairview Dam to Johnsondale Bridge. The Lower Kern Largemouth and smallmouth bass bite is fair to good with soft plastics and small crankbaits. At the time of reporting the Upper Kern River was flowing at 329 CFS and the Lower Kern River was flowing at 373 CFS.
