Trout fishing along the 20-mile stretch in the Upper Kern is fair to good. Anglers are having to work a bit to find some takers. Above Fairview there have been a few reports of browns being caught on artificials. Holdover and native rainbows have come on salmon eggs, trout jigs and panther martins. In the Lower Kern, bass have been showing in good numbers at Democrat. Anglers are also finding a solid smallmouth bite closer to town. Bass have been going for Zman and crush city ned rigs, small crankbaits and Roboworms on drop shot. Catfish are being caught with nightcrawlers, chicken liver and cutbait. At the time of reporting, the Upper Kern River at Kernville was flowing at 217 CFS and the Lower Kern River was flowing at 1017 CFS.
